Surrey is large. A family in South Surrey and a family in Guildford are both Surrey residents, and the drive between them at half past four on a Wednesday is a serious consideration. When parents look for tutors in Surrey, distance is often the deciding factor, and it should be weighed properly rather than assumed.
Our centre is at 8806 141A Street, Surrey, BC V3V 7W5, close to Green Timbers and reachable from most of the city. Here is how families in different parts of Surrey generally arrange things.
Newton
Newton families usually attend in person, and the drive north on King George Boulevard or 140 Street is manageable outside the busiest part of the afternoon peak. Sessions from 5.00pm onward tend to work better than 4.00pm for families coming from the Newton Town Centre area.
Newton students most often come to us for Pre-Calculus 11 and the Grade 10 mathematics sequence, which reflects the course loads at the secondary schools in the area.
Fleetwood
Fleetwood is among the shortest journeys to the centre, and a good number of our in-person students come from that side of the city. Families frequently pair an in-person session midweek with an online session at the weekend during exam periods, which keeps the momentum without adding a second drive.
Guildford
Guildford families reach the centre easily via 96 Avenue or 104 Avenue. Guildford students ask most often for the senior sciences, Chemistry 11 and 12 in particular, and for support with the Grade 10 Numeracy Assessment in the winter term.
Cloverdale
Cloverdale is a longer trip, and this is where the online option genuinely earns its place. A number of Cloverdale students work with us entirely online during the school week and come to the centre for intensive sessions before final exams. The teaching is the same and the tutor is the same. Only the room changes.
South Surrey and White Rock
South Surrey and White Rock families are typically twenty-five to thirty-five minutes away depending on the hour. Most choose online for weekly sessions, and it works well for senior students who are comfortable with a shared whiteboard and can work independently between sessions.
For younger students, Grades 4 to 8, we usually suggest coming to the centre where practical. Younger learners benefit from the room, the routine and the absence of the household around them.
City Centre, Whalley and Bear Creek
These are the closest neighbourhoods to us, and students from this area make up a large share of our in-person groups across all grades and subjects.
Choosing between in person and online
Both formats work. The choice is best made on the student rather than the postcode.
In person tends to suit:
- Students in Grades 1 to 8, who benefit from the structure of a dedicated room.
- Students who work better with fewer distractions available.
- Subjects with heavy diagram work, where writing side by side is genuinely faster.
Online tends to suit:
- Grade 11 and 12 students who are used to working on a screen.
- Families more than twenty-five minutes away, particularly in winter.
- Households balancing several children’s schedules at once.
Many families use both, and there is no additional cost to switching between them week to week.
Timing the drive
Two practical notes from years of watching families arrive:
- The 3.30pm to 4.30pm window is the slowest across most of Surrey. A 5.00pm or 6.00pm session often means a shorter drive than a 4.00pm one.
- Saturday sessions are the most straightforward of the week for families travelling from Cloverdale and South Surrey, and they are popular for that reason.
Beyond Surrey
We also teach students in Delta, Langley, Burnaby, Richmond, New Westminster, Coquitlam and Vancouver, mostly online, with the centre available for exam-period intensives. The subject pages on this site set out what each area’s students most often ask for.
Arranging a first session
If you would like to see the centre before deciding, you are welcome to visit. We are at 8806 141A Street, Surrey, BC V3V 7W5, open six days a week, and the $50 trial class can be taken in person or online, whichever suits the week. Call 604-725-6845 and we will find a time that fits the drive.
