Pre-Calculus 127 topics

Transformations, logarithms, polynomial and rational functions, and a full term of trigonometry. It is the direct prerequisite for first-year calculus.

How We Teach Calculus

We teach calculus from first principles rather than from a formula sheet. A student who understands what a derivative measures can rebuild any rule they need. We also confirm the Pre-Calculus algebra underneath, because fluency there makes calculus far more straightforward. More on tutoring in Surrey with OOTB.

Small Group, One-on-One or Exam Prep

Small-group calculus tutoring runs at $370 a month for four hours a week. One-on-one and exam preparation are $40 an hour, in person in Surrey or online over Zoom. Every new student starts with a $50 trial class. Compare all programs.

Calculus Tutoring Across Surrey, and Online

Calculus 12 tutoring runs from our Surrey centre at 8806 141A Street, and online for families further out. Most Calculus 12 students are also carrying Physics 12, Chemistry 12 and a university application, so the schedule matters as much as the teaching.

We run 9:00am to 9:00pm seven days a week and will build the sessions around the school’s unit test calendar rather than a fixed syllabus of our own. Online students get the identical class over Zoom, with the same worked derivations on screen. We also teach students online in Vancouver, Burnaby, Delta and Langley.

Calculus Tutoring FAQs

My child did well in Pre-Calculus. What is different about Calculus?

Very often the calculus itself is fine and it is the algebra underneath that is not. Simplifying a derivative demands fluency with rational expressions and factoring. We establish which layer needs strengthening before we begin teaching.

Do you tutor first-year university calculus?

Yes, including UBC and SFU first-year courses. Bring the course outline and recent assessments.

Can we start mid-term?

Yes, and starting sooner is better in calculus because each topic builds directly on the last.

One-on-one or small group for calculus?

Both work. One-on-one at $40 an hour suits a specific gap or an exam push; small groups suit sustained support across a term.

Is Calculus 12 worth taking if it is not required?

For most students heading into science, engineering or economics, yes. It is not usually an admission requirement, but seeing limits and derivatives once before first year changes how that first term feels.

Does Calculus 12 cover the same ground as AP Calculus?

There is real overlap, particularly in limits and differentiation. AP goes further in places and is assessed differently. We prepare students for either.

My child got a good Pre-Calculus 12 mark but is lost in Calculus. Why?

Almost always limits. Pre-Calculus rewards a reliable procedure; calculus asks what happens as something approaches a value, which is a different kind of thinking. Once that lands, the rules make sense.
